We recognize CRNA Week with Dr. Marcia Iszard, the President of the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthesiology. According to Marcia, the essential skill for unlocking potential is simple: Goal Setting.
Marcia emphasizes that while many skills are necessary for success, goal setting is foundation. "You have to know what you’re working towards," she explains. "Everything that we do starts with a dream or goal." Once a goal is established, other skills come into play to help achieve it. Some individuals may possess these skills naturally, while others develop them through experience and dedication. Marcia reflects on her own journey, stating, "I believe that I personally have grown and sharpened these skills with experience."
Currently, Marcia is President of the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (S.C.A.N.A). Her primary focus is to enhance access to anesthesia care across the state. "Our main goal is to improve access to anesthesia care in South Carolina by removing antiquated language from the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act," she shares. This initiative is crucial as it empowers nurse anesthetists to increase healthcare access and provides facilities with the flexibility to keep operating rooms open.
